My only complaint is that there is no way to contact them if you have a question or problem after hours, nor is there guidance who to contact instead.”

About Dr. Juan Portela
Dr. Portela was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in June 2006 from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus.
After graduating, he moved to New York and completed a Residency in General Dentistry at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center from 2006 to 2008. This advanced general dentistry residency focused on implant surgery and full mouth rehabilitation and included both General Practice Residency and Chief Residency.
Dr. Portela provides dentistry dedicated to excellence, incorporating new technology and techniques. He enjoys learning and implementing innovations in his practice and is often among the first dentists to adopt and perfect newer, more advanced methods and equipment.
To date, he has attended numerous courses on implant placement, implant restorations, and smile rehabilitation. Dr. Portela is committed to delivering quality patient care with an emphasis on patient satisfaction.
He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry.

My visit with Dr. Portela on June 6, 2025 was exceptional. He made me feel very comfortable from the onset. I went in for a cleaning and extraction. He explained the procedure in detail and the after care for home. Doctor Portela has a true gentle touch and a calm demeanor considering most dentist. I am so glad to have found a dentist I will continue with from now on! Thank you, Dr Portela... I highly recommend this dentist!!

My family and I have been going to this office for about 5/6 years. It’s has been the best decision we have made by coming to this clinic. Having Dr. Portela as the family dentist has been a blessing. The service he gives and the knowledge he has of his work is amazing. I wished I would have found him 15 years ago when I moved into Ridgewood. We don’t have no complaints i recommend everyone to him.

I’m not sure where Juan went, but some woman looked at me for a second and said no you need a surgeon/specialist. I thought the person I made an appointment with was going to be able to do the work. If this dentist is unable to perform extractions then why allow me to book the appointment, pay triple digits to see them, and I am still on my own trying to find a dentist for an extraction. Complete waste of money
