Psychologist
OH
The most common phrase I hear when I ask new clients to describe themselves is "not good enough." As a result of invalidating life experiences, many of us come to believe that we are undeserving of acceptance. To avoid potential rejection, we hide parts of our identities that others might view as undesirable, presenting a fragmented or incomplete version of ourselves to the world. While this can be advantageous in certain environments, it often becomes a barrier to intimacy. Many of my clients struggle to be vulnerable and find it challenging to embrace their full, authentic selves. My task as a therapist is to create a safe environment where you can be your whole self without fear of judgment. I am committed not only to understanding and validating you but also to helping you learn how to understand and validate yourself. My hope is that you will leave therapy knowing that you are enough and that you deserve love and acceptance. I am a licensed psychologist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University. I completed my undergraduate studies at Tulane University, my internship at the University of North Dakota, and my residency at the University of Texas, San Antonio. I provide virtual therapy to adult clients, specializing in LGBTQIA+-related concerns, early childhood trauma, relationship issues, men's issues, shame, anger, depression, anxiety, and work-related concerns.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice is fully virtual, and I meet with clients via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform called Telehealth by Simple Practice. Clients are able to access the session using a laptop or desktop computer, phone, or tablet. Clients will have access to my client portal, where they can complete paperwork online, access superbills to submit for out-of-network reimbursement, update payment information, and cancel/reschedule appointments.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. I will work collaboratively with you to develop a unique treatment approach that is tailored to your individual needs. Working as a team, each of us will come to sessions bringing our own areas of expertise. While I may be the expert on psychological theory and interventions, you are the expert on you. Nobody understands what it is like to be you day by day better than you do. As I learn more about you each session, I will begin to share observations and hypotheses about patterns I am noticing and/or themes that are emerging across different contexts. Through this process, we both will gain a clearer understanding of your internal experience, and this new insight will help us identify specific tools and strategies that will help you move toward your therapy goals. As a clinical psychologist with a generalist background, I have training in several evidence-based treatment approaches, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). However, my primary theoretical foundation is in psychodynamic theory, which rests on two basic assumptions: present-day experiences are influenced by past experiences, and human behavior is largely directed by unconscious motivations. By gaining insight into the impact of early childhood experiences and making the unconscious conscious, clients develop a greater awareness of forces (both internal and external) driving their behavior, granting them a greater capacity to choose new and more effective behaviors.
