Dr. Benjamin Kestenbaum is an Interventional Spine & Pain Management physician. He specializes in providing comprehensive care using a minimally invasive and non-operative approach with fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided procedures for the treatment of neck, low back, joint, and other musculoskeletal pain conditions and injuries.
Dr. Kestenbaum does NOT prescribe opioids. His treatment philosophy centers on restoring function and improving quality of life without the use of narcotic medications.
Dr. Kestenbaum earned his medical degree from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency at Larkin Community Hospital in Hialeah, FL, where he served as chief resident. He went on to complete his fellowship in Interventional Spine, Pain, and Musculoskeletal Medicine at The Kahan Center in Maryland.

I walked in and was attended immediately by someone virtually - it was a real person, but she was in a virtual setting. I thought “why this is different AND cool”. Like 5 minutes later I was as sent into the doctors office where I was asked questions by another professional virtually. She asked me questions before I would see the doctor. It was interesting, but nevertheless it did the job and it was still a live person except it was virtual. After the intake, the doctor came in the room. The room was very clean, I was sitting on one of those chairs with the waxy paper. The doctor made me move my legs and he felt my lower back where I was feeling the pain I came in for. The visit with the actual doctor was about 20 minutes. He was very present and listen to all my concerns and gave me possible options for my pain. He gave me prescriptions and referrals to physical therapy, mri and X-rays. I thought he was great! I see him again after X-rays, so like in 2 weeks.

The doctor was unable to help me. I couldn't leave in the same amount of pain I arrived in. I've been at this level of pain for seven months and I can't bear it anymore. An ambulance was called to transport me to the ER. I was left in a small room crying in pain for two hours. I've been in so much pain for so long that I'm desperate. They left an unsecured bin of used sharps in the room with me. They should not have done that. I couldn't wait any longer. I told them I was going to go home and overdose on pills. I called an Uber. The ambulance was arriving as I left. It took two hours. I don't understand how one human being can ignore another human being in that much pain for that long. It's not even a criticism. I just don't understand.

Dr. Kestenbaum is an exceptional spine specialist who combines expertise with genuine compassion. From my first appointment, he was extremely kind and attentive, taking the time to explain everything in terms I could understand. I was honestly terrified about having any procedures done on my spine, but Dr. Kestenbaum’s approach was incredibly comforting. What really put me at ease was learning that he’d undergone the same epidural injection treatment himself for a herniated disc – it’s rare to find a doctor who truly understands what their patients are going through.
If you’re dealing with spine issues and looking for a doctor who is not only highly skilled but also empathetic and reassuring, I cannot recommend Dr. Kestenbaum highly enough. He’s absolutely 10/10 in my book.

I thought Dr. Kestenbaum was a fantastic doctor—I would recommend him to anyone with spine problems. He takes United Health Care's Community Plan (Medicaid), which many New Yorkers use.
I was able to be seen for an initial visit the day I booked my appointment, which was fantastic for a specialist doctor. To be seen the same day for something that is not primary care or an emergency is really impressive.
I will say that I was disappointed by the virtual receptionist. I know that virtual receptionists are trendy because there is less paperwork and overseas wages are lower, but I would have preferred a real human being in the room.

Dr kestenbaum has great bedside manner, seems very smart and is super patient and kind.
