Dr. Murtaugh is a very conscientious physician who listens carefully to your issues and is very methodical in addressing your issues. I have been seeing him close to 10 years, and I have always found him to be very pleasant, always addresses my questions in a very clear manner, and has done a great job helping me overcome my back related issues. I recommend him very highly to others.

Waited over an hour to see the doctor. Was told the office would call to schedule a follow up appointment, they did not. Got an MRI, followed up about my next appointment and was told I would need to wait for the doctor to review results and it was on me to follow up to schedule a consult appointment and then a procedure. This is after the doctor explicitly told me otherwise. The woman on the phone said she would get a supervisor and then abruptly hung up on me.
Dr Murtaugh is a very good communicator and a talented problem solver who thinks "outside the box." He described several treatment options and patiently answered my questions. I anticipate returning to him for follow on procedures.

Fantastic, reception was top notch. Appointment went smooth, and the doctor understood my problems and looked for solutions to them.
I usually take the time to understand where a provider is practicing, but in this case I didn’t have time. It turns out the office is in a big hospital with a busy parking lot (took a while to find an open spot). This meant I was 10 mins late, but I called ahead to let the staff know, and they told me not to worry and that there was a 15 min grace period. After the usual admin questions, I waited in a medical gown. Almost an hour after my scheduled appt time, I poked my head out and the front desk (who were nice and helpful) agreed that this was way too late. That’s when I heard the doctor say defensively “well, didnt she get here late?” (No sir, not an hour late). That’s when I knew this wasn’t going to be a great doctor. Providers talking about patients as though they can’t hear them, especially given you’re there because you’re experiencing pain or illness, is insult to injury during an already poor patient experience. In the end, I was mostly seen by his fellow (who was very nice).

Given the circumstances I am trying to give a balanced review. The appointment was done through a Telehealth portal due to Cov-19. However I did wait about 2 months to get an appointment with him and felt like he rushed through it and didn’t give me a good explanation of what he was seething. Furthermore, he prescribed a medication that is supposed to help until I am able to see a neurologist for another test but after reading about it I’m even more confused as it has nothing to do with what we discussed during my appointment. Overall, didn’t feel like he listened well and have seen this pattern before with other medstar doctors. I have been trying to find the cause of my symptoms since Sept 2019 with medstar docs and don’t have much to show for it.

Receptionists were kind (they went above and beyond finding the MRI office number for me), the nurse/tech who took my vitals was personable and so sweet, Dr. Murtaugh was thorough/to the point/willing to talk out loud about his train of thought when it came to my diagnosis & treatments
Dr. Murtaugh listened to the history of my injury and was very thorough with the exam. Overall, I found him to be extremely professional and I would highly recommend him!
Verified patient
He is the most professional doctor I have. He is most informative about my condition and always willing to listen to my issues/questions about my condition. He shows and demonstrates true interest in me as person and patient. Need more doctors with his commitment in the medical profession. Love what he does.
Verified patient
Very thorough, took time to review my MRI’s, notes etc. I liked that he didn’t rush through my appointment and he gave me some hope that he could help me with my back pain.
Verified patient
Everything went well during the visit. The prescription however was not discussed thoroughly. The documentation on the drug I received from the pharmacy suggests many more risks from the drug, through side effects than was discussed by the doctor.
Clean office, quick appointment. Doc took the time to explain my issues and talked me through all options. Very satisfied with my visit.
Dr. Murtaugh was very professional, thorough in his explanations and emphatic. He answered all of my questions. I would definitely recommend him!
Verified patient
Dr. Murtaugh is by far the most professional and helpful physician I have had for my back issues. Throughout the last 6 years of back issues, ranging from tightness, spasms, etc. He is the first doc that has been able to provide the necessary service and recommendations to get my back to a point where I am comfortable and can manage the pain without narcotic pain medicine. Excellent M.D. and would recommend him to anyone.
Verified patient
Very attentive and knowledgable.

Outstanding! One of the most professional, knowledgeable MDs I've had the experience of visiting. Dr. Murtaugh was very helpful and delivered the exceptional service I was looking for.
Verified patient
After dealing with back pain for over a year, Dr. Murtaugh was the first physician who actually diagnosed the problem and prescribed the best course of treatment for me. He and his staff took the time to explain my MRI results and walk me through treatment options. Would highly recommend!

I had a different experience than the positive reviews.... The reception staff hadn’t entered my name correctly and told me I didn’t have an appointment, we resolved that but their system wasn’t working well and they were quietly griping at each other about it not working and about not being able to get help from each other. I had to fill out a whopping thirteen pages of forms even after I had filled out all of the forms on ZocDoc. The doctor went through the motions of testing this that and the other thing but he was not focused on where I actually have pain. After telling him that I have been through eight procedures, chiropractors and physical therapy twice...he recommended physical therapy. He seemed a little bored or irritated throughout the process. He just said that after some time has passed, it’s difficult to diagnose the problem. I was flummoxed.
He is more or less on time for appointments. His staff is courteous and professional. Dr. Murtaugh is thorough, pleasant, professional and answers questions. He is efficient but I don't feel rushed out of the office.

Wait time was too long
The best part was "he listened". I was pleased with our exchange. I think, I have found the right person to help with my pain.

Dr. Murtaugh was very nice and professional.

Dr. Murtaugh was helpful in guiding me along the path of dealing with multiple joint/tendon issues. He was patient, asked good questions, answered all of mine, and suggested PT moving forward (even printed some exercises I can do on my own). He was kind enough to request permission if a student could assist him, which I was happy to oblige. I deeply appreciated the steroid injection as it has started working so well even one day later.
Verified patient
Dr. Bryan Murtaugh was excellent. He took his time explaining everything in detail with me. I appreciated that. My only disappointment was in making the initial appointment online. ZocDoc stated on his profile that Dr. Murtaugh is a pain management doctor. When the doctor began to go over my history is when I was informed that he is not a pain mgmt doctor and that he is in the sports medicine field. This was upsetting for me because I was not able to be prescribed pain medicine. I have a serious medical condition after having 6 major lower back spinal fusions, both hips iliac crest grafting, disc removal, laminectomy. So my pain medications are very important to me. He did however give me a referral to a pain mgmt doctor.
Short wait; the delay was mainly in filling up the forms since it was my first visit. Dr M is very personable, and provided direct, simple and professional responses my questions.
I had a pleasant experience with Dr. Murtaugh and his staff. Dr. Murtaugh is friendly, professional and thorough. I would strongly recommend him to anyone new rehab or pain management treatment.
