What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Cory Alfers practices at Talkiatry, a patient-centered, online psychiatry practice. Talkiatry providers specialize in medication management and treat a wide range of mental health conditions. They take a personalized approach to care, ensuring that treatment is rooted in a strong patient-provider relationship and a responsible, evidence-based approach to prescribing. We know that every mental health journey is unique, and we’re here to make yours feel manageable and supported at every step.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a comprehensive first visit, where you and your provider will discuss your goals, medical history, and what brings you to treatment. From there, you’ll work with your provider to create a care plan that feels right for you, which may include medication, therapy, or both. If your provider recommends medication, they’ll walk you through your options—our goal is always to help you make informed choices about your care. You’ll meet with your provider regularly for follow-up visits to check in, adjust your care as needed, and make sure you feel supported in your journey.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Dr. Cory Alfers was great!!, and I felt comfortable speaking to him. He asked important questions I never thought about and was straightforward about how he would approach treatment for me. I appreciate the transparency and time devoted to my current issues
Dr. Cory Alfers was awful. He said, "as a psychiatrist I'm here to prescribe medicine, if you need someone to talk to I can recommend a therapist." I'm going through depression since I loss a love one. In my opinion, he did not care or show any empathy towards me. I was just another number.

He was very thorough and really made sure to listen! He asked a series of questions before making his diagnosis and he seems like he genuinely cares about his clients. He also left me the agency to decide which medication I prefer from the ones he suggested, which made me feel very comfortable. I am very happy with this provider!
This is the first psychiatrist I have really connected with. No paternalism whatsoever. He treats me like a thinking individual and full partner in my care. Highly recommend him, particularly for so-called “difficult” women patients, which usually means they expect to be listened to and engaged in choices, which he does. He can say no, but it forthright and solution-focused when he does.
The dr. was very helpful and listened before creating an action plan. I would recommend people reach out and book time with him.
