Marriage and Family Therapist
CA
Hi, my name is Desiree, an LMFT who is calm, nurturing, and compassionate. I hold a Master's in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton. My highest priority is that you feel a sense of emotional safety and ease as we begin our work together. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am also interested in healthy peer and intimate relationships, co-dependency, the LGBTQ+ community, and adoption-related issues. My approach is eclectic with an emphasis on CBT. Identifying faulty core beliefs in particular while working to accurately shift them can benefit overall progress. Increasing positive coping, self-care, and mindfulness are also essential in my work.

What should a new client know about working with you?

To start, we will explore what you want and discuss how we can get you there. We will then collaborate to set specific and tangible goals for our sessions and can plan to review/adjust as we go. You will walk away feeling heard and more hopeful about making the changes you want.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session will begin with a check-in and a "bridge" from the previous session where we will connect where we were to where we want to go now/today in the session. We will review HW if assigned and discuss any barriers to completion of HW and/or general progress. We will then set the agenda for the session to include topics that the therapist and the patient would like to discussed while prioritizing them. Items not addressed will be added to the agenda for the following session. The "meat" of the session will include topics of significance for the client and interventions to address the client's needs. To wrap up, we will discuss how the session went and whether or not the needs of the client were met in order to make any adjustments needed to our time together for the next session. I am highly committed to a collaborative and communicative process about how the therapy is going so that together we can meet the client's needs.
