** NOTE: This practice does not accept any form of insurance. ** ** Out of network invoices provided ** I started my training by completing medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine and specialized in psychiatry at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. For the first three years of my career I worked at St. Luke's Hospital both as Associate Training Director and as a general outpatient psychiatrist for patients, including those living with serious mental illness. My career has been largely with the LGBTQ population, although I work with people of any identity. I previously served as President of AGLP: The Association of LGBTQ Psychiatrists, Director of Psychiatry at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, one of the largest LGBTQ Medical Centers, and medical director of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC). I am a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and recently served as their Chair on the Council of Minority Mental Health and Health Disparities. I have expert training in both psychotherapy and medication management and can provide either or both depending on need. I am board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Some examples of the reasons why people see me are: - Treatment of depression, anxiety, OCD, mood, and psychotic symptoms - Substance use concerns including opioid treatment - LGBTQ-affirming psychotherapy - Relationship issues - Coming Out to family, friends, or work - Questioning and exploration - Sex Therapy - All sexual orientations and gender identities - Professional work stress ** NOTE: This practice does not accept any form of insurance. **

What should a new client know about working with you?

During your initial appointment, we’ll have a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation so I can better understand your concerns and goals. From there, I’ll offer personalized recommendations for care, which may include therapy, medication, or a combination of both. If we decide to continue working together, follow-up visits will be tailored to your needs. These may include 45-minute sessions that integrate both therapy and medication management, or 30-minute sessions focused on medication follow-up and check-ins. My goal is to create a supportive and collaborative space where we can work together to improve your mental health and overall well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is individualized and based on your specific needs and goals. I offer several forms of psychotherapy, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), and supportive therapy. The type of therapy we use will depend on the issues we're addressing and what feels most effective for you. When medication is part of treatment, we’ll regularly review your symptoms, monitor for side effects, and maintain appropriate lab work as needed. I aim to work collaboratively, providing care that’s thoughtful, thorough, and responsive to how you're progressing over time.
