About Dr. James Shea
Dr. Shea is a dually trained Pediatrician and Dermatologist. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he decided to stay in his hometown of Buffalo, NY to pursue his medical degree at the State University of New York in Buffalo. He completed a pediatrics residency at the Ann and Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago where he discovered that dermatology was his true passion, combining his love of use of visual diagnostic clues, procedural skills, and opportunities to make long lasting relationships with his patients. Dr. Shea stayed at Lurie Children’s Hospital to complete a fellowship in pediatric dermatology before moving back to the East Coast to complete his dermatology residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA where he also served as Chief Resident in his final year of residency.
Dr. Shea’s interests are broad and include pediatric dermatology, particularly birthmarks and infantile hemangiomas. Dr. Shea also has interests in alopecia, acne, psoriasis, as well as cosmetics procedures, including neuromodulators such as Botox, fillers, and lasers.
Outside of work, Dr. Shea enjoys traveling, trying new cuisine, and spending time with his family.

I showed up and was given an extremely lengthy questionnaire. I finished it quickly, then went into the office. Dr Shea showed up and spent less than ten minutes with me, yet was visibly impatient the whole time, making a show of looking at his watch whenever I briefly paused to take notes. Then he recommended a skincare regimen. I asked if the ingredients could possibly have any downsides, and he said no. I used his suggested regimen, and it burned and reddend my face and made it much worse than it’s ever been. I asked what happened, and he indicated that he hadn’t even looked at the ingredients, even after I told him what happened to my face, and told me to just try another. Unprofessional all around.

I cannot say enough positive things about this doctor. From the moment the appointment began, I felt truly heard, understood, and cared for. They took the time to listen carefully to my concerns, answered every question thoughtfully, and explained things in a way that was both clear and reassuring.
What stood out most was their bedside manner—calm, compassionate, and respectful. I never felt rushed or dismissed, and their presence alone was incredibly grounding. It’s rare to find a provider who combines clinical expertise with such genuine empathy.
I left the appointment feeling informed, supported, and more at ease than when I arrived. This is the kind of doctor every patient hopes to find, and I’m very grateful for the care I received. Highly recommend!
