“Dr. Yu was terrific, thorough, and addressed everything I brought up during the intake. He had a wealth of expertise which he communicated clearly in a great bedside manner.
The medical assistant who performed the initial tests was cordial and highly skilled with the equipment, all of which appeared in good condition. I saw proper hygiene (gloves and alcohol wipes) in place.
A third member of the staff - at the front desk, and I presume the same person with whom I spoke on the phone - came off high-strung. Although she communicated clearly, and probably meant well, she could be a lot more pleasant with a more relaxed demeanor, slowing down when speaking and waiting for others to finish their sentence before responding.”

Dr. Jeffrey Yu is a vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in the medical and surgical management of diseases affecting the retina, vitreous, and macula. He is dedicated to delivering compassionate, state-of-the-art care for patients throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Dr. Yu earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Stanford University before attending the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors. He completed his internship at the University of Michigan and remained there for his ophthalmology residency and a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery. His advanced training provided extensive experience with both complex surgical cases and the latest medical treatments for retinal disease.
An active contributor to the field, Dr. Yu has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented research at national ophthalmology meetings. His clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment repair, epiretinal membrane and macular hole surgery, and complex vitreoretinal trauma.
Dr. Yu is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Outside of work, Dr. Yu enjoys spending time with his fiancée and their Chihuahua–Shih Tzu mix, Jib, exploring New York City, and traveling.

I kept telling myself I had a good experience, but the whole thing isn’t sitting right with me. The tests were comprehensive and the staff is friendly. The uneasiness is from my experience with Dr. Yu. When I booked on here, I checked either consultation or check up. In the notes, I stated that it was more difficult to see than in the past. Simple stuff. No one reached out prior to the appointment recommending I see an optometrist or general ophthalmologist. After 1.5 hours and rounds of tests, I saw Dr. Yu. He offered a brief greeting (standard), then proceeded to ask vague questions about why I was there. I had no idea why I was getting an interrogation. He then specified that he was a specialist and I needed a different doctor. Fabulous. No one could have mentioned that before I paid a co pay? Whether intentional or not, his questioning and dismissal came across as condescending. He’s probably a skilled specialist, but I’m not impressed with his social skills.
