Getting to know Dr. Jennifer Neuhof

I provide a warm and safe yet dynamic space in which my clients express their innermost thoughts, gain insight, heal wounds, and learn to live with more confidence, humor, and joy. With 25 years of clinical work with children, adults, and couples, I am able to quickly attune and help my clients feel at ease. While inner work generally takes time, some positive change can be rapid. I earned my PsyD in School-Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University and completed a Fellowship in University Mental Health at Fordham University. My clinical training includes an internship at The Mount Sinai Hospital and an externship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. My specializations include dating and intimacy, couples, family, marital, perinatal, and parenting concerns, adult and childhood trauma recovery, dissociation, nervous system regulation, narcissistic abuse, women's health, university mental health, executive consultation, anxiety, depression, feelings of meaninglessness, false self, reconnection, and emergence. In addition, my experience as former Director of Fordham University's counseling center, crisis specialist, national presenter, and state board member has prepared me to assist medical professionals and industry leaders with their work-related, management, and mental health concerns. While I understand presenting problems through a Psychodynamic conceptual lens, I view therapy as an art and integrate techniques from diverse models based on client needs. I have advanced training in Intersubjective and Humanistic Psychotherapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Family-Systems Theory, Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), Threat Assessment (TA), suicide prevention and postvention, play therapy, and culturally sensitive treatment modalities. My personal exploration into global, somatic, and intuitive healing practices also informs my work. ~Jennifer Neuhof, PsyD

What should a new client know about working with you?

We will embark upon an assessment and discovery phase of therapy in which I am more active with questions while staying close to what you feel is salient. Together, we chart the path of what therapy together will be like, and areas of focus. In my experience, people’s presenting concerns ameliorate once there is felt safety and shared understanding, allowing more deeply rooted issues and warded off feelings to surface. While I will offer genuine feedback, paths we may take along with rationale, and interpretations of “what’s happening”, I am listening and watching for signs of what resonates with you. Ultimately, I will take your lead as I assist you in gaining insight and self-acceptance and developing relational styles and worldviews that help you feel most connected to yourself and others, and liberated to live the life you most desire.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During your 20 minute complimentary consultation, I will listen carefully to your needs, and advise a therapeutic approach and modality that I believe is best-suited for you.

I would highly recommend Dr. Neuhof because she is a skilled, and compassionate therapist. She takes her time to get to know you, and provides a comfortable environment for open communication.
Dr Neuhof is wonderful to work with. Very available and knowledgeable in so many areas. My experience working with her has been life changing and I’m very grateful.
Dr. Neuhof is an EXCELLENT psychologist! I came to her with some issues I'd been struggling with for a few years and, within just 5 or 6 sessions, I'm already feeling significantly better! I am very pleasantly surprised, as I thought that wouldn't be possible. But, it was!! She is very intelligent and insightful. Just as importantly, she has a fantastic bedside manner. She is VERY kind, patient and understanding. I would TOTALLY recommend her to anyone and only wish I had found her sooner!!
I was Dr Neuhof's patient from 2015 to 2019 (a little over 4 years). I had been “accumulating” various issues over the years and, although I had felt the need for a while, I had been procrastinating to reach out to a therapist. There were quite a bunch of knots for us to untie when I started my therapy with her! We worked together until I felt I had resolved the main blockages which were preventing me from progressing in life. Thanks to her care and support, I learned how to identify some recurring patterns in my behavior and thinking, to question their origin and consequences, and to address them in a calm and methodic way. Our therapy sessions felt like a dynamic and constructive dialogue, which I did appreciate a lot. Some of my issues were an obstacle to sound decision-making on important life choices – as we progressed in the therapy, I grew increasingly empowered to approach decision-making in a confident and healthy manner, and to resolve challenges myself, independently. I started seeing Dr Neuhof while living in New York City, but moved overseas for work about 4 months into the therapy. We therefore started doing online sessions, and despite the challenges posed by the distance and time zone difference, Dr Neuhof was flexible and accommodating, ensuring that our work continued to be smooth and efficient. I did however thoroughly enjoy having in-person visits while visiting New York, about once a year. I would also like to point out that, while I am very familiar with American culture and fluent in English, I am European and a non-native English speaker. Therapy can be highly sensitive from a cultural standpoint, I however found it easy to communicate with Dr Neuhof and I felt like she could relate to me and what I was saying. I am particularly grateful to have encountered Dr Neuhof, as it can be tricky to find a therapist that you “click” with (I had tried a few sessions with another therapist just before meeting her, and his style really didn’t work for me). I appreciated her reactivity, thoughtfulness, kindness and genuine care. Needless to say that I would highly recommend her!
My husband and I spent time with Dr. Neuhof in the months leading up to our wedding, working through some of the normal stress that comes with wedding planning and blending two families together. She was thoughtful, helped us improve our communication and helped us develop strategies to use together as we navigated various bumps in the road.
Dr. Neuhof was a pleasure to have as my mental health provider. She was kind, compassionate, a great listener, and gave me great insight into my thought processes and ways to combat stress and anxiety. She went through a methodical approach, asking questions and injecting her own perceptions throughout the process, which allowed me to clearly make great progress in her care. Would recommend her to anyone seeking an empathetic and effective mental health provider.
Dr Neuhof was great! She is a very knowledgeable and experienced psychologist. She is well equipped to address a wide arrange of needs. Furthermore, she is welcoming making you feel comfortable during each session. I would highly recommend Dr. Neuhof for both in-person and virtual sessions.
I came to Dr. Neuhof with depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, relationship issues, and an eating disorder, and she helped me find my way out of one of my lowest points. She helped me make decisions that would change my life for the better.
I first saw Dr. Neuhof in 2014. I have been to several therapists in the last 20 years. She stuck. Even when I went to see other specialists, I always came back to Dr. Neuhof. She is honest. She will tell you whether you need to see a specialist if she feels your issues are not her speciality. She is always available. She texts you to check in. She ALWAYS remembers the smallest of details which is so reassuring. I really felt listened to. I felt she cared beyond our sessions. She reaches out to your entire care team including your primary care doctors To make sure that you are receiving the best care possible. She will go above and beyond to make sure that your care is the most important thing. Her office can be a safe heaven. Sometimes I just wanted to sit. That was ok with her. She makes you feel comfortable and let’s you go At your pace. She will challenge your thought processes and make you dig deeper. She is the best therapist I have ever had.
My husband and I saw Dr. Neuhof prior to our wedding, as we were working to blend our family. She helped us communicate more effectively and gave us a wide range of tools to navigate some of the more difficult moments. We greatly appreciated having her as a resource and grew stronger as a team due to our having worked with her. She was fantastic.
