Jerome Canady, M.D., FACS, is a staff surgeon specializing in Surgical Oncology, General Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, complications from Bariatric and General surgery, and advanced tumors of the gastrointestinal tract at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. Dr. Canady provides expert management of benign and complex tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, including liver, bile duct, pancreas, intestine, sarcomas, and colon, with assisted pre-operative 3-D imaging and mapping via CT/MRI. He specializes in acute and complex gastrointestinal emergencies, HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy), and cytoreduction of metastatic, recurrent complex tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, including liver, bile duct, pancreas, intestine, colon, ovaries, and colon. With over 25 years of surgical experience in general surgery, acute care surgery, surgical oncology, and surgical complications, Dr. Canady has authored or co-authored more than 70 scientific publications. He has been a Visiting Professor and lecturer in the U.S., China, Europe, Israel, Japan, South America, Russia, and the UAE. He holds patents or patents pending for over 250 inventions. Dr. Canady is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery (2000), recertified in 2008, 2020, and 2024, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is also certified by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. Dr. Canady earned his Doctor of Medicine from Temple University. He completed his Residency in General Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, followed by fellowships in Immunology and Transplant Surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital. He is a Research Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Co-Director of the Plasma Medicine Program GWU/USMI at George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
