Getting to know Joy Eghaghe

At Optimum Therapy and Consults, LLC, I lead a psychiatric and mental health practice grounded in clinical excellence, cultural responsiveness, and compassionate human connection. As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority, I am committed to advancing holistic, evidence-based care that treats the individual not just the diagnosis. My approach to mental wellness integrates advanced psychopharmacology with psychotherapeutic methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and trauma-informed care. This multidimensional framework allows me to deliver personalized, data driven, and outcomes-focused treatment that promotes long-term healing and resilience. I provide care for adolescents, adults, and families experiencing a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar and psychotic disorders, ADHD, OCD, and complex trauma. I also support individuals navigating grief, loss, and major life transitions. My clinical focus extends beyond symptom relief to the restoration of identity, meaning, and self-efficacy. Graduating with honors from Walden University with a Master of Science in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, I founded Optimum Therapy and Consults to bridge gaps in mental health access and equity. I am deeply passionate about dismantling stigma, promoting culturally sensitive care, and empowering each client to participate actively in their journey toward recovery. I view mental health as both a science and an art, the science of neurobiology and evidence-based practice, and the art of empathy, presence, and genuine human connection. My goal is to create a therapeutic alliance that fosters trust, insight, and transformation. At Optimum Therapy and Consults, mental health is not a destination but a dynamic process of growth, balance, and self-discovery. Together, we will make it !! Mental health is our business!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means entering a space of safety, respect, and collaboration. I view each client as a unique individual not a diagnosis and I tailor every treatment plan to reflect your personal story, strengths, and goals. You can expect a therapeutic partnership grounded in transparency, compassion, and mutual trust. Our work together begins with a comprehensive assessment that explores both the challenges you face and the resilience you possess. From there, we will build a plan that integrates evidence based medication management, psychotherapy, and lifestyle approaches to support your mental and emotional wellness. I believe healing is a process, not a destination. Progress often unfolds gradually, and consistency matters. You will be heard, supported, and guided every step of the way., with the assurance that your care is grounded in science, cultural awareness, and genuine empathy. Most importantly, know that I am fully invested in your success. My goal is not only to reduce symptoms but to help you rediscover clarity, confidence, and balance in your daily life. Together, we will do the intentional work that leads to lasting transformation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation designed to understand the full scope of your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. During this first session, I take time to listen carefully to your story., your history, experiences, and goals so that we can establish a clear clinical picture and determine the most effective plan of care. After the evaluation, we collaborate to create an individualized treatment plan that may include medication management, evidence-based psychotherapy, and lifestyle or mindfulness strategies. My goal is to ensure that every aspect of your care is personalized, transparent, and aligned with your comfort level and preferences. Follow-up sessions are structured yet flexible, focusing on ongoing assessment, medication adjustments (if needed), and therapeutic reflection. I emphasize education and shared decision-making, empowering you to understand your treatment options and play an active role in your journey. Throughout our work together, I maintain open communication and encourage feedback. Progress is monitored not only by symptom improvement but by your overall sense of balance, confidence, and functionality. Ultimately, my process is collaborative, intentional, and rooted in trust. I view each session as part of a continuum of healing a partnership dedicated to helping you achieve sustained mental wellness and live with clarity, purpose, and peace.

Dr.Joy is an insightful, compassionate, and attentive listener. Always makes me connect my thoughts and behaviors to my past lived events so that I can understand the "why." She redirects my negative thoughts into positive ones. Reminds me of my strengths and motivates me to be a better version of myself. I joined in January 2025 and I have seen such a positive change in my mental health.
This was my second session. The first session felt standard intake. However, during the second session, While I was responding to her questions, I could clearly see in the reflection of her large clear-framed glasses that she was scrolling through an online shopping catalog. This went on repeatedly for approximately 10–15 min. Each time she asked a question& I began answering, she would scroll again. When I expressed that it was distracting to see her shopping while I was speaking, she appeared startled and quickly said she had “multiple screens up.” However, the reflection was visibly an online retail page. Instead of apologizing or taking accountability, the tone shifted. She suggested ending the session so as not to “waste time,” and later made a condescending remark that I “seem like I have all the answers.” There was no acknowledgment of how unprofessional and dismissive this behavior was. Therapy requires presence, attentiveness I would not recommend her based on this interaction.

I had an amazing experience and what stood out is the amount of the encouragement my provider gave to me and I’m going back in two weeks

I had a fantastic appointment with Joy Eghaghe. From the moment the visit started, I felt completely at ease. She is incredibly warm and easy to talk to, but also very professional. She took the time to listen to my history and concerns without making me feel rushed. It’s rare to find a provider who combines medical expertise with such genuine kindness. I highly recommend her.
I did not mesh very well with this counselor. She seem to be nice however it felt more like we had to get questions that were mandatory which I understand that, but the emphysema felt more force, and some subjects felt like lectures , I lost trust after I felt uncomfortable and I feel like We weren’t a good match.

Joy is an involved NP. She not only cares about your medication management, she also wants to know how her patients are doing.
Joy is extremely insightful and professional, and has helped bring new perspectives to situations I am experiencing. She is not there to solve problems but to help me find the best solutions for myself. I look forward our visits, and, when needed, she has been able to find time for additional appointments. I greatly appreciate her expertise and value her insight. Even when we are not in total agreement, I always appreciate her perspective
She took her time and listened to me. That’s something I truly appreciate. I like that she didn’t offer medication as soon as we started our session.

Joy is super nice and compassionate! She is a great listener! I was feeling down before my visit & after speaking with her I felt alot better mentally! This was only my first visit and I had a instinct connection with her! I can’t wait to speak with her again! Definitely a 10/10! I would definitely recommend!
Very good listener, een though I interrupted her several times (sorry). Easy to communicate with, and feel comfortable doing so, even at an initial visit. Hopefully will be a long time patient!
So far so good. Seemed like she truly listened and was honest about what to expect going forward, which is rare in any specialty anymore.
