About Dr. Lalit Narayan
Lalit Narayan, MBBS, MA, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He received his medical degree from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India in 2007. He subsequently worked as a general practitioner in rural India for two years before moving to the US to pursue further education. He earned a Master’s Degree in Anthropology at Syracuse University, New York in 2013, completed his Residency in Primary Care/Social Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, New York in 2016 and completed an Academic Fellowship in Medical Education at George Washington University in 2017.
Dr. Narayan strongly believes in a holistic assessment of medical problems using a bio-psycho-social approach. He is passionate about social medicine, a school of thought within modern medicine that plays close attention to the historical, social, environmental and epidemiological context in which ill health arises and seeks to meet patients ‘where they are at’ to work together on their health. His clinical interests center around the provision of comprehensive primary health care. This includes clinic-based management of acute and chronic medical conditions, screening and reduction of risks to physical and mental health, women’s health and the care of medically vulnerable populations.
Dr. Narayan is also a medical educator and health workforce researcher. He teaches Clinical Skills and Reasoning to medical students and adult primary care to internal medicine residents. He leads a team investigating how medical students in India can be better equipped to practice in multi-lingual clinical and educational settings. He is also involved in health workforce projects focusing on post-graduate medical education.

I came in to get a prescription renewal at the end of November. He said he would the the whole prescription, but only renewed half of the dose. Then when I came in today to fully establish care and have a physical, as the dr. requested, he decided he does not want to prescribe this medication I take as needed, he wants me to become dependant on a daily pill. When I addressed this inconsistency in his words vs actions, he said I was trying to bargain with him. No, I fulfiled my requirements, but he didn't want to be honest with me in the beginning and fulfil his requirements of being my primary care doctor. I am so tired of arguing about my body with anyone (especially men) who have not lived in this body for 40 years.

The visit went well. I was initially seen by a medical student before being seen by Dr. Narayan. Both did a thorough job of talking about my different conditions and listening to what I said.

Very short wait as a follow-up patient. Dr Lalit is very patient and efficient, though he will engage in extensive conversation about any topic of choice by simply asking him for further explanation or clarifications.

Dr. Narayan was considerate, helpful, and knowledgeable. He listened as much as he spoke and he made it clear that he understood my concerns, and provided several possible ways forward. Overall, I thought he was efficient , informed, and sympathetic.

Dr. Narayan was very courteous, polite, and highly competent. Front desk staff were OK. Waiting area was clean and fair enough by university hospital standards. No complaints.

Very nice doc, professional and thorough. However, crowded and shabby waiting rooms with seats that need new springs, or better yet a bon fire. Nasty reception staff in lab area. Adjunctive staff could all use some training in customer service. I was also told it’s a training facility. If none of that bothers you then I think a nice doc and was good with LGBT health.

Dr. Narayan was great. My only gripe is that the appointment started 20 minutes late. I wish the GW Medical Associates team could find a way to schedule appointments in a way that valued patient time on par with the doctor’s time.
