Getting to know Dr. Michelle Hornbaker-Park
Dr. Michelle Hornbaker-Park is a board-certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over nine years of experience. She currently practices at Talkiatry. Her practice focuses on medication management, evidence-based medicine, and the understanding that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of behavioral health healing. She incorporates CBT, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation into her medication management appointments and may refer patients for additional psychotherapy to improve outcomes.
Dr. Hornbaker-Park received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College. After receiving a Health Professions Scholarship from the Army, she obtained her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. She went on to enter active duty military service and complete General Psychiatry residency training and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training at Tripler Army Medical Center.
As a staff psychiatrist and 101st Airborne Division psychiatrist at Fort Campbell, KY, she cared for service members and their families. She later transitioned to federal civilian service, which led to a posting at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). At WRNMMC, she served in several roles including Deputy Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry, core faculty for the National Capital Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program, Associate Program Director, and associate faculty at the Uniform Services University for Health Sciences (USUHS).
Prior to transitioning out of federal service to join Talkiatry, she was repeatedly recognized for excellence in academics and mentorship and received multiple teaching awards. This zeal for education and mentorship, as well as humility, personal growth, and learning, translates directly into her philosophy for patient care. She believes a whole-person approach with open, collaborative teamwork is the key to progress.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
We start with a comprehensive first visit, where you and your provider will discuss your goals, medical history, and what brings you to treatment. From there, you’ll work with your provider to create a care plan that feels right for you, which may include medication, therapy, or both. If your provider recommends medication, they’ll walk you through your options—our goal is always to help you make informed choices about your care. You’ll meet with your provider regularly for follow-up visits to check in, adjust your care as needed, and make sure you feel supported in your journey.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Talkiatry, the company Dr Hornbaker works under, is a very suspicious company. They cancelled my appointment with Dr Hornbaker without checking, notifying, or communicating with me, and claimed it would take them TEN BUSINESS DAYS to “place me with another psychiatrist”. When I called about this, the woman on the phone scheduled me another appointment with Dr Hornbaker, and said this issue was a glitch in the system. 24 hours before the second appointment, the EXACT same thing happened again. I never got to see Dr Hornbaker. I’m sure she is a wonderful doctor, but talkiatry simply would not allow me to see her.

I found Dr Park to be efficient, friendly without being artificial or intrusive, and easy to talk with. She asked good questions and was thorough. She was a good listener. She came up with a workable plan which I appreciate. I’ve put off finding a psychiatrist to replace mine who retired. Had let my internist prescribe my medication. But it was time to have someone who’s on top of the advances in pharmacological therapies. Dr Park came across as both knowledgeable about advances, and a good fit for my (and my more reserved husband’s) personality.

I was not a good match for her. I felt uncomfortable and insulted by the end of it. Worst psych or therapy experience I’ve ever had to be honest. It started out good but my actual issues were ignored I felt and she only focused on things that were not the root cause. This is only for medication management as well and not therapy so that was my mistake I suppose. She hung up at the end after insulting and degrading me with a smile on her face at least.
