About Dr. Nathaniel McKay
Dr. Nathaniel McKay is not your average optometrist. Hailing from the small town of Johnstown, PA, he’s a proud Penn State alumnus who always knew he wanted to make a difference in people's lives.
After earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from Salus University in 2014, Dr. McKay started his life journey to help people improve their ocular health. With a residency in ocular disease at Wilmington, DE VAMC under his belt, and over 10 years of working in ophthalmology settings while achieving his fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. McKay has nearly seen it all.
In 2024, Dr. McKay opened Eycon with locations in Navy Yard, DC and Ft. Washington, MD. He was able to finally deliver the patient experience he imagined and looks forward to taking care of patients across the DMV area.

The office staff was exceptional. They made sure my urgent booking was confirmed and that all the necessary paperwork was completed prior to my arrival. Upon arrival, I was immediately seen by Dr.McKay - he asked the right questions,listened, and proceeded to explain his process and diagnosis. I appreciated that he was willing to go the extra mile by performing additional tests to ensure that there were no other issues. This was an amazing experience. From the facilities, to the supportive staff and especially Dr. McKay.
Stepping foot in reception, I immediately felt welcomed by the warm smiles and bright “Welcome in!” that I received. The amazing and funny team in optical helped me find stylish and affordable eyewear (so many options to choose from, whether you shop high-end or cost friendly). The technician was very knowledgeable and personable, giving explanations on every part of the process (how the state of the art equipment would work and aligning my care with what was covered by my insurance).
Dr. McKay was wonderful and listened to all of my concerns regarding my eye health and how difficult navigating activities due to previously incorrect prescription.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me as a patient and individual and making sure that my eyes were properly cared for.
I felt heard by Dr. McKay and would gladly recommend this provider. You all are the absolute best!

Nathaniel was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. We did a pretty routine exam, he showed me some interesting images of my eyeballs, and I got a copy of my prescription on the way out.
The staff were efficient and friendly; they initially called me to ask if I could reschedule 5 minutes after I'd requested the appointment, and even with that hiccup the entire experience was a breeze.

Very friendly environment. As a first time patient, I immediately felt very comfortable. I was treated like a good friend. Dr McKay was very polite, friendly and professional. He took the time to show me images of my eyes and explain everything he was doing, kudos to Dr McKay and his staff. The only cons I can voice is that I felt a little pressured to choose brand names frames, but at the end of the day the choice was left to me.
I’ll definitely recommend this doctor to anyone with eyes issues.

Very professional office, staff, & experience was 100% perfect. I booked with and seen by Dr. McKay. He uses very new tech that I’ve never experienced at my old OD. I believe he gave me a better examination due to the thoroughness and deep care into what my reality with contacts/glasses is like. His advice on what would work best for me was founded in reality and not to get me to spend extra $$ unnecessarily. The entire team was diligent in ensuring what my insurance would cover and discussed pricing before anything was done. Highly recommend this practice to anyone who wants a doctor who listens and is kind/caring. His glasses department was well-stocked and I can’t wait to receive my new frames! That team was fantastic and they were so patient with me while I was indecisive on what frames to buy. Even the receptionist jumped in to help. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever had such a memorable/fun experience at an eye doctor before. Can’t wait to go back!
