About Dr. Powell Shiau
DISC is the premier chiropractic clinic in the DMV offering high-quality chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, cupping, and soft tissue muscle therapy. SAME DAY APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE. We are open late on weekdays until 7PM and Saturdays. We accept most major insurances. Dr. Shiau is a top-ranked chiropractic physician experienced in treating orthopedic sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions, with Board Certifications in Acupuncture and Physiotherapy. He specializes in acupuncture, full-spinal and extremity adjusting, and soft-tissue muscle release. Dr. Shiau earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, graduating top of his class with highest academic honors. Outstanding practitioner and very helpful and friendly staff. I am new to chiropractics and acupuncture, so was a bit apprehensive. What an outstanding visit from top to bottom. The appointment was thorough, un-rushed, friendly and professional. The wide array of available treatments was fantastic and I felt that the appointment far exceeded my expectation of chiropractic care. Dr. Shiau (pronounced like the first half of shower) is an incredible practitioner!! He developed an extensive treatment plan for me with multiple stages, including at home stretches with print outs of exactly how to do each stretch (with pictures) and how often! He explained exactly what was going on with my spine, and showed me on physical replica. They take almost every type of insurance and they can almost always get you in! The staff is incredibly helpful and the office greeter (Dr. Shiau’s corgi named Orlando) is the sweetest! Would recommend him to everyone I? talk to.

I had a great experience here. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the chiropractor provided me with moist heat, acupuncture, and electric muscle therapy. My first appointment with Dr. Shiau was amazing. He is very personable and a really good listener. He has state of the art equipment and knows several chiropractic techniques to treat any area of tension or pain, from acupuncture to cupping and much more. Given his experience you would expect him to be much older. My visit was more of a routine check-up — no serious pain or injury — but I left feeling much better than when I arrived. I knew I had some tension in the neck but he also identified and addressed the tightness in my lower back. I left that initial visit feeling great and as if Dr. Shiau has known me for years! Rarely if ever does that happen, but I’m so happy I’ve found this practice. I have since referred family and friends.

Medical guidelines strongly recommend against chiropractic treatments for my condition. However, doctor dismissed this concern and proceeded. My goal from the appointment was to try alternative treatments but avoiding chiropractic adjustments. Adjustments felt uncomfortable and had more pain afterwards. Will follow medical guidelines and avoid any chiropractic treatment in the future

Was greeted immediately by the most friendly pup. Assistant remembered speaking with me earlier and doctor was great with hearing me and recommending treatment. Only a couple blocks from L'Enfant Plaza Metro station, very walkable and able to maintain for regular appointments. Really grateful to find them when I really needed help.

I had a spinal fusion for severe scoliosis 1 1/2 years ago and Dr. Shiau has been amazing at alleviating pain above and below the fusion. He performed a combination of chiropractic adjustments, acupun-cture, electrical muscle stimulation, and soft tissue work to alleviate my pain.

Dr. Shiau is very flexible w/ scheduling, which is very much appreciated. Very prompt & professional. They are open late & even have Saturday hours, which is perfect for me. The location is convenient, right off the metro stop. Great bed side manners & always takes time to listen & educate me on my body & pain. I never feel rushed. I highly recommend Dr. Shiau He is a lifelong chiro for me & my family.
