As a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with 30 years of experience in mental health care and 15 years as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I am committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive psychiatric services to individuals across diverse backgrounds. My career is marked by a strong foundation in nursing, advanced psychiatric practice, and a genuine passion for improving mental health outcomes.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in nursing from University of Maryland at Baltimore, where I developed a solid grounding in clinical practice and patient care. Following this, I pursued my master’s degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at the same University where I specialized in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders. I complemented my education with a PhD degree in Education at Northcentral University, Scottsdale, Arizona (now National university). My training included extensive clinical experience, working under the mentorship of leading psychiatrists and mental health professionals. I received many awards of excellence during my many years of practice. I received a Patient Care Advocate Award while I was a student. I received Medical Service Award for Outstanding and Dedicated Service in 2022. I incorporate holistic approaches into my practice.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in various settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, community mental health centers, long term facilities, psychiatric research centers, National Institute of Health (NIH), Mental health emergency centers, psychiatric home visiting programs, and private practice. In these roles,
I have conducted thorough psychiatric evaluations, developed personalized treatment plans, and provided psychotherapy and medication management. My work is guided by a holistic approach, integrating evidence-based practices with a deep understanding of each patient’s unique needs and circumstances.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
My approach to psychiatric care is rooted in empathy, respect, and collaboration. I believe in creating a safe and supportive environment where patients feel empowered to share their experiences and actively participate in their treatment. By fostering a trusting relationship, I aim to help individuals achieve their mental health goals and improve their overall quality of life.
