About Dr. Sze Wong
Dr. Wong is accepting straight Medicare and Medicaid patients, along with self pay patients. More insurance coverage to come in the future.
Dr. Wong is a board certified ophthalmologist and a highly skilled fellowship-trained eye surgeon, specialized in glaucoma and cataract surgeries.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale and his M.D. with honors in Physiology and Neuroscience at NYU. He completed his residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and was elected chief resident his final year. He then completed his fellowship at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai.
Dr. Wong performs comprehensive eye exams, glaucoma evaluations, cataract surgeries, and glaucoma lasers and surgeries (including tube shunts, trabeculectomies, and MIGS).
He spends time with his patients to understand their concerns. Dr. Wong willingly answers all patient queries and offers valuable advice as well. He makes sure to guide them gently and is extremely supportive.
He is currently a faculty assistant clinical professor of New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai and has taught residents and fellows for many years. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Teaching and Dedicated Service Award. He regularly performs complicated procedures referred to him by other eye specialists.

Dr Wong is very thorough and knowledgeable. He was very thoughtful about the tests he ran. He asked pertinent questions and listened carefully to my answers he referred to reports I provided for him multiple times to make sure he addressed everything.
He is a stellar doctor and a very kind and gentle person.

Decent experience overall. Wait was a little long but being that he was one of few ophthalmologists open on Saturday, I kind of understand. Staff was friendly but wish the doctor explained allowed some time for questions. Everything happened so quickly that I didn’t really have a chance to ask some of my questions. But regardless I was treated in a respectful manner.

Dr. Wong was punctual, thorough, and seems to have appropriately diagnosed and addressed the issue for which we visited. That said, despite his office staff quoting the same self-pay amount on 2 separate phone calls the morning of the appointment, upon checkin they told me the woman from his office had provided the wrong amount and charged 20% more than cited. I can afford it and was grateful to see a very capable ophthalmologist on a Saturday and wasn't going to leave after driving 45 minutes to see him, but it seemed a pretty poor business practice to not honor the price they'd cited twice that very day only to change it upon arrival when nothing had changed - the visit was ~15 minutes total for a fairly straightforward issue, not something exotic that'd explain the increased charge.

Another seamless experience where I got clear and concise answers.
The office itself is very clean and well put together
Dr. Wong and his staff are very knowledgeable and respectful. They listen well, open to any questions and give out answers that a non-medical person can understand. They speak both English and Chinese languages.
They also have most of the medical equipment in the office so I didn't have to go anywhere.

The front desk staff were super nice and welcoming, which I really appreciated. However, one issue I had was that they didn’t check my insurance coverage before my appointment. I later found out they were out-of-network, so I ended up having to pay $$$ out of pocket — definitely not a pleasant surprise.
I saw Dr. Wong for a severe, swollen stye. I had high expectations based on some of the glowing reviews I read beforehand. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t match that. The exam was very quick — about 5 minutes, while I waited for like an hour and 30mins in the waiting room, and while he did check my eye and instructed the nurse on what I needed, there was little explanation or discussion. I didn’t receive a proper diagnosis, and while I take some responsibility for not asking more questions, the appointment felt rushed and impersonal.
In the end, I left feeling like my $$$ wasn’t well spent.

Office staff is friendly and accommodating. They offer a cash or Zelle payment for copays, but if you opt to pay with a credit card, they do charge a fee.
And although the waiting room was
full and wait time was pretty long (got seen by the Dr closer to 1120am and I had an 10am appt), Dr. Wong had excellent bedside manner and answered all of my questions and concerns with much clarity. He definitely cares about his patients and doesn’t make you feel rushed.

It's my first time to see a ophthalmologist in NYC, so i tried to find a doctor who could speak mandarin Chinese. Dr Wang is really friendly and provided me with both detailed explaination and concrete support! I also paid by myself and got reduction as well. The clinic is located in Flushing, but worth visiting.

The entire staff here was incredible. From the very knowledgeable front desk that worked well even under stress (they still remained friendly and organized about reminders and disclaimers about my insurance), to the staff that did my light screening efficiently with a very personable touch, Dr. Wong himself who was thorough and understanding of my situation.
I really enjoyed the whole office team and their bedside manner. They are also all fluent in Mandarin if needed!
