Leighton Brooks is a capable and insightful psychiatrist specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry, based in New York, NY. Dr. Brooks earned his Doctor of Medicine from Howard University. He completed his residency in General Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, followed by a residency in General Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Harlem Hospital Center.
Dr. Brooks has accumulated extensive experience with a range of complex psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder with psychotic features, sexual identity disorder, pediatric depression, and other personality disorders. He leverages this wealth of knowledge and experience daily to bring about long-lasting, positive change in his clients' lives. His consultations and treatment plans are consistently thorough and individualized to address the unique needs and concerns of each client. Some of the services he offers include life coaching, post-traumatic stress disorder counseling, and mental development evaluations.
Dr. Brooks will contact patients to discuss their case, needs, fees, and further intervention. He also performs assessments for medical marijuana, which are billed separately from the initial psychiatric assessment.

I was disappointed be the follow up response I received when I expressed some adverse reactions to depression/anxiety medication I started after meeting with Dr. Brooks. He lacked empathy and compassion in his response and shamed me for not calling 911 immediately. If it weren't for my degree in counseling psychology and experience as counselor, his response would have potentially increased my suicidal ideations rather than lessen them. I do not recommend if you are a person who is sensitive to words/bedside manner.

Dr. Brooks is the most thoughtful and understanding psychiatrist I have had the opportunity to meet. He takes the time to understand any and all of the issues with which his patients are dealing and also does a wonderful job of keeping his patients at ease with his calm and easy-going demeanor. He's certainly the best doctor I have had and I highly recommend him to anyone seeking psychiatric treatment.

I think Dr. Brooks has an amazing bedside manner. He is extremely down to earth and knowledgable. He is able to impart this knowledge in a way that the lay person can understand. He has a particularly wonderful way with children. He was also quite available for follow up. Highly recommend him.

My experience with Dr. Brooks has always been extremely positive. He is very understanding and has a genuine concern for my well-being. He also remembers the small details, which really matters because Dr. Brooks actually takes the time to get to know you and is very professional and respectful about treatment options. Best doctor I have ever had. So insightful, with a keen eye and very understanding nature. Perfect fit! I am very grateful to the universe for finding me such a caring doctor. Thank you! I will not forget his words, "You are worth living". It made me want to positively cry because I don't think anyone ever really told me that, at least that straightforward. I'm so glad I took the recommendation of a friend and made this appointment, he's really so nice, so easy to talk to and engage with. He's also very knowledgable and picked up on things right away, but also took my opinion and my wishes into account, which I really appreciated. By far the best psychiatrist I have ever seen, with all the time he gave me it felt like a therapy session and I'd go so far as to say one of the best 'therapists' I've seen too.

Dr.Brooks was inviting from the start. I have never seen a psychiatrist in my life before but, he had somehow taken an hour and allowed me to open up to find the underlying problems. I highly recommend his true listening skills and joy in helping people.
