Getting to know Dr. Voski Hovsepian

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I work with older adolescents and adults of all ages, primarily in individual psychotherapy. I practice mainly through a psychodynamic, relational lens: I hold that our primary relationships throughout development shape our minds and lay down patterns of relating well into adulthood, often leaving us with troubling symptoms and psychological barriers to creating and living fulfilling lives. I also incorporate humanistic-existential and cognitive behavioral therapy into my work. I have training and experience working with people dealing with substance use issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship issues, and more. I look forward to beginning the therapeutic journey with you!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work with individuals begins with establishing an emotionally safe space in which we can explore what brings you into therapy. We then tailor our work to your specific issues and needs, be they contemporary stressors, long-standing relics of the past, or both. We may discover core conflicts, psychic remnants of past relationships and experiences, that contribute to your current symptoms or appear as self-defeating patterns in your work, social, and romantic relationships. Re-working these past struggles and events, sometimes traumatic, with support, insight, and compassion can help release you from feeling emotionally trapped to have greater freedom and authorship. We will not only focus on the past, but we may encounter here-and-now struggles, at times right in the consulting room, between us, that can allow for emotional healing and great change in how you relate to yourself and others -- I may also grow through such encounters -- as therapy is a journey on which we travel together. We will also work on further developing your strengths, recognizing your unique voice, and bolstering healthy coping so that you can better manage distress and life’s challenges in the future.

  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductible and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Aetna, Meritain, Nippon) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, and Fordham. In-network, your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our service more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
