Ashlyn Harty, LICSW

Psychotherapist
DC
I received a Bachelor’s of Social Work in New York and a Master’s of Social Work in Washington, D.C. During my studies, I focused on community mental health and crisis management in youth and young adults. My passion has always been to de-stigmatize mental health in the BIPOC communities, while discovering and providing creative expressive ways that resonate with our population more culturally. I have worked with clients ranging from ages 2-35 that have experienced depression, trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and simply just regular life stressors and transitions. Most recently, I worked with youth in Washington, D.C. that were impacted by gun violence. My approach utilizes various forms of play, story telling, and creative writing as a way to process one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors while integrating techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I strongly believe that each person’s needs are different in therapy, from the frequency of sessions, approach style, and level of relatability. Is relatability a word? I'm not sure, but who's judging? Judging is something I won't be doing if you're a client of mine. With those differences in needs, comes some of the creative expressive exploration that can take place in the therapy session. Additionally, my approach works alongside a client to help them discover their strengths and improve their overall well-being. It’s a space to support you in learning how you can make healthier life choices to become the version of yourself that you’re proud of. Outside of loving my job as a Clinical Social Worker, I love to dance, cook, create art, and read. Shockingly, I'm not really into the self-help books, I love a good romance, thriller, or anything with some drama to it. I also love to travel the world with my husband. The world has so many things to teach us and show us, just like you have so many things to teach and show the world.
