Bianca McDonald, LICSW

Psychotherapist
DC
I am a child welfare social worker with a background in case management within the Washington, DC community. My passion for supporting individuals and families stems from the belief that everyone can thrive with strong support. My goal is to provide reliable support that promotes healing, growth, and the creation of a positive personal and familial atmosphere for those that I work with. My approach I appreciate the utilization of Narrative Therapy and truly value the stories that are shared with me. I'm honored every time I'm trusted with the retelling of ones experiences. My goal in receiving this information is to provide a safe and comforting space to process these narratives and revisit the thoughts around them to identify core beliefs and restructure negative connotations. My focus I most enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, and family systems. I am passionate about the impact that parent/child relationships have on shaping an individuals identity and laying a foundation for their life experiences. I find work with adult children very meaningful in processing parts of their childhood that may have felt heavy. I also value the opportunity to support parents in increasing their capacity to connect with and support their children. Additionally, I have a unique insight into supporting those employed in helping professions that often come with transference and secondary traumatic stress. My communication style I make efforts to ensure that I am communicating gently, but directly. In order to effectively support a client within therapy, and encourage progress, it is important that boundaries are stretched and there is accountability in reflection. My role includes challenging clients and asking uncomfortable questions, all while with the knowledge and compassion to then provide a safe and empathetic environment to support and process the disclosures that come.
