“It was an intake session. Cheryl did ask quite a few questions to try to get an idea of what kind of things that we are going to be addressing if I choose to continue to have a therapeutic relationship with her. She seemed interested in trying to help me help myself. I have a follow up appointment with her this coming Friday?????. We will have to see how things go?.”

Getting to know Cheryl Delaney

Cheryl Delaney’s private practice is Calm Place Therapy, P.A. As an EMDRIA Certified Therapist, her focus is helping clients to heal from trauma using EMDR integrated with an Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed approach. Clients include adults and adolescents that are recovering from traumatic events; narcissistic abuse; intimate relationship issues; difficult family dynamics; grief and loss; life transitions; and, substance misuse. Therapy modalities are aimed at symptom resolution, reduction or management of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety (generalized, panic, social, phobias, OCD), depression, and ADHD for optimal executive functioning. The trauma-informed clinical approach provides a safe allied space for clients including multicultural, neurodiverse, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect a person-centered approach, which means that the therapeutic relationship is collaborative rather than the therapist as an authority figure. Cheryl’s approach is caring and patient while also direct and gently challenging at times, as appropriate.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first step in the therapeutic process is establishing a rapport and building trust with the client. The therapist also learns about the clinical themes of the client, which become the therapeutic goals. Talk therapy is always an option with psychoeducation to learn CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and IFS-informed coping strategies. If EMDR is advised, there are eight phases of this therapy modality.
