Getting to know Constance Smith

Life Mend Therapy offers a highly personalized approach tailored to each client's individual needs to help attain personal growth. I work with individuals, couples, and families, fostering a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative environment where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors openly. My practice is informed by a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) framework, identifying and modifying negative thought patterns to promote positive change. I have extensive experience working with those facing anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University, which has equipped me with the skills to provide effective, evidence-based care. My goal is to empower clients to develop coping mechanisms and build resilience to navigate life’s challenges, while maintaining a strong focus on confidentiality and ethical practice. (the practice does not prescribe medication).

What should a new client know about working with you?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that I have used throughout my years of providing counseling with individuals, partners and families. Therapy focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve mental health. It is based on the premise that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are interconnected and that by modifying our thoughts, we can change our emotions and behaviors. CBT uses a structured, goal-oriented approach to help individuals: Identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and beliefs Develop coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills Change negative behaviors and cultivate healthier habits Improve overall emotional regulation and well-being CBT is an evidence-based therapy that has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health conditions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After scheduling an appointment, you will receive an email with the link to participate in the scheduled tele-therapy session. You would take an active role in directing the treatment process. The therapist provides a supportive environment by demonstrating active listening, genuineness, and avoiding judgment, allowing you to explore and understand your feelings. A typical tele-therapy session would start with an update on how you are feeling in that moment and over the past weeks. A review of our previous session would follow with a discussion on how you have implemented the skills discussed. Goals for the session would be agreed upon and we would proceed with therapy.
