Getting to know Gena Taylor-Tidwell

Hi there, I'm Gena! Congratulations on taking this step towards your personal wellness! I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) based in Kentucky and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University of Minnesota and my undergraduate degree from Murray State University in Kentucky. I help adults understand and navigate a variety of concerns to empower them to become the best versions of themselves. My approach I utilize an eclectic approach of theories customized to each client’s needs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) includes techniques such as mindfulness, understanding how our thoughts impact emotions, and identifying negative thought distortions to challenge and reframe them using cognitive processing theory (CPT). Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on the present moment, accepting thoughts and feelings without judgment, and moving forward with that acceptance. Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) helps clients identify self-defeating thoughts and feelings, challenges irrational and unproductive beliefs, and replaces them with healthier, more productive ones. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) emphasizes personal choice, self-acceptance, worthiness of love and positive relationships, and explores emotional response versus reaction (REST). Positive Psychology highlights strengths and virtues that enable clients to thrive. My focus I enjoy working with adults ages 18 and older. My clients are eager to improve but may lack the insight, support, or tools needed to make their goals a reality. If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or isolated, we can explore multiple techniques to find what works best for you! My communication style I am clinical and conscientious but like to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in session. I appreciate humor when appropriate and enjoy providing various resources to clients.
