I am a Christian willing to incorporate biblical principles into the counseling relationship if requested by the client. I strive to meet clients where they are, providing a safe space for being seen and heard. Many of the clients I work with struggle with feelings and behaviors that don't serve them well, but don't know how to make and maintain the changes they desire. Some of my clients enter counseling confused and overwhelmed, unsure of what they do want for their future. My approach I use several treatment modalities, including Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and partner with clients to develop their goals and tailor an approach that best suits them. I ask challenging questions and work to enhance strong, effective communication skills. For clients open to written work, I provide worksheets for between-session work. My focus My ideal client is open to learning more about themselves, the relationship between mind and body, and recognizes that we aren't born with all the tools needed for health and well-being, but need to be able to determine and obtain the best tools for the situation. My communication style I strive to model active listening, asking clarifying questions, and using curiosity cues to deepen understanding. I believe that many issues are related to ineffective communication skills, and better development of the sending and decoding of both verbal and non-verbal communication can lead to better understanding. My journey to mental healthcare I felt called to counseling as a step of faith. I believe that with encouragement and grace, clients can determine their goals and, together, we can chart a course for growth. In my role as a counselor, I want to communicate the value each person has and assist in building the skills to allow for more joy in their lives. I celebrate learning more about the reasons why a strategy wasn't tried or successful as much as those that the client sees as being successful.
