“I've been seeing Kristin for a couple of years now and I really appreciate her open and humorous demeanor. She's very empathetic, easy to talk with, and insightful. She helps me stay goal oriented, but is also flexible with pivoting or tableling/switching goals as needed. We have used different therapeutic techniques for different goals of mine, which is also wonderful to have in my tool box. I would highly recommend her as a therapist.”

Getting to know Kristin Krivickas

Getting here is half the battle. Whatever compelled you to consider therapy... WELCOME! I?m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Counselor with 20 years of experience in mental health. I earned my Master?s in Social Work from Aurora University and my Bachelor?s degree from Illinois State University. I?ve worked as a mental health provider in various settings, including residential treatment for chronic and persistent mental illness, inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment, alternative and therapeutic day schools, and forensic treatment. For the past 8 years, I?ve served as a mental health clinician in the primary care setting, providing collaborative and holistic care for a wide range of patient concerns. We are the product of all our collective experiences?the good, the bad, and the ugly. These experiences, especially during our developmental years, shape how we see ourselves, how we view the world, and our place in it. My practice is rooted in social work principles and aspects of positive psychology to guide treatment of the whole individual. I offer a person-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to help individuals realize their own greatness, overcome perceived obstacles, and live more adaptive lives. If you are new to therapy, simply put, therapy is two people, in the same room, working together to sort something out. It?s a partnership, a collaboration. Making the decision to enter therapy is a big deal. You are entering into a relationship with a complete stranger, hoping this person will help you navigate whatever challenges you face. Here?s the reality: I?m not the best fit for every client. It?s important to know that YOU are the one who decides whether to move forward with a particular therapist. If it doesn?t feel right, shop around until you find the right therapist for you. Take the opportunity to ask questions about the process, including the approaches they use and their therapy style.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The therapeutic alliance is about building a strong connection with one another, and achieving emotional attunement (understanding, identifying, and engaging with emotions). It’s not about just feeling comfortable or liking your therapist, but most importantly, mutual TRUST. For the therapeutic alliance to be most effective, there has to be agreement toward therapy goals, objectives, and interventions. I always encourage my new patients to write down questions, or topics that they would like to focus on during the next session. This gives the patient an opportunity to actively take part in their own session. Treatment planning is a crucial piece in the early stage of therapy, where the patient establishes their own goals, in their own words.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
