Psychotherapist

The best part about being a therapist is guiding clients in understanding what has informed and shaped them to date and how they can design a future that will meet their needs and confront obstacles along the way. I enjoy helping clients to explore ideas previously overlooked and to discover strengths they did not know they possessed. My approach The first and most important task of any therapist is to listen thoroughly to all aspects of a client's presentation, to engage with the client with curiosity and interest, and to elicit from the client all the feelings and thoughts that come to bear in shaping their world. My focus An ideal client would know there is something about the self that they need to know or to develop, but they just do not quite know how to describe it. The paths of inquiry and discovery can be quite enriching for both client and therapist. My communication style I seek to make sure that I have "gotten it right" with any aspect of the self or situation that has been presented. From there, I explore what the client may think is possible. I am straightforward and probing without being presumptuous. My journey to mental healthcare From adolescence through adulthood, I have been fascinated by how the mind and spirit work. This interest has never abated. I consider myself more than a little fortunate in that regard. My goals for you Goals will only work if the goals are the clients. A therapist can make suggestions, but ultimately -- and significantly -- a client's agency needs to be part of treatment planning. Good goals can be imagined and then made concrete on a step-by-step basis. My first session with you A first session will evoke a lot of information in a very short period of time. Unlike other sessions, it is not likely that there will be time for a 'deep dive' into feelings and thoughts, but there can be a lot of discovery about both client and therapist to see whether each would be a good fit for the other.
