Getting to know Mary Rom

I began my career as a therapist during a time of great uncertainty for both myself and my clients. This experience highlighted the power of human connection, even when built virtually. Many clients come to strengthen relationships with others but often discover a deeper relationship with themselves, improving self-esteem and overall well-being while gaining awareness of how emotions are embodied and expressed. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds, enriching my practice and commitment to supporting growth and healing. My therapeutic style is respectful, open, and warm, incorporating humor and metaphors. I am currently a fourth year resident in a post graduate training institute in Gestalt Therapy. I am a supervisor at PMA Mental Health Counseling where I mentor and train graduate students and pre-licensed therapists. I have experience with diverse populations, including those facing mental illness, trauma, disabilities, and family challenges. Some of our may focus on supporting you in building communication, boundaries, and self-awareness skills. I’d love to join you on your mental health journey—think of me as your guide, advocate and occasional metaphor-maker, and someone who will challenge you. I am here to support you with care, insight, non-judgment and maybe a little laughter along the way. When booking through ZocDoc, you may be seen by another therapist in the practice, including Advanced Clinical Interns. All PMA clinicians are highly trained and incorporate diverse therapeutic modalities. As the Clinical Supervisor of PMA, I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Old Westbury, and I am directly involved in your treatment. Our intake coordinator will reach out to you upon booking to guide you through the initial steps. *Please Note: PMA does not provide medication management.

Mary is a caring and knowledgeable practitioner of Gestalt Therapy. Mary holds space, is affirming and grounding. She challenges in ways that foster change, encourages us to examine patterns that keep us stuck and the somatic responses that resonate in our bodies to help build awareness of stressors. She does so with humor, light, connection and compassion.
