Dr. Telfeyan holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work from New York University, a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico. She has taught graduate-level social work courses in clinical practice, human behavior, and substance abuse at New York University, Stony Brook University, and Molloy College.
She is licensed in New York State as an LCSW-R and holds a temporary license in New Jersey.
Dr. Telfeyan has considerable expertise in anxiety and depression, concomitant medical issues, sexual abuse, trauma, child neglect, substance abuse, family dysfunction, and serious psychiatric disorders. She has managed citywide programs serving families, adolescents, and children from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life.
Known for being nonjudgmental and respectful, Dr. Telfeyan believes that feelings are neither right nor wrong and that excessive self-judgment can hinder emotional health.

Dr. T is the best therapist I have ever worked with. She is kind, supportive, empathetic, and an active listener. Dr Lael has excellent bedside manners, she gives good advice, she listens to me she helps me verbalize my feelings and she really understands me well. I'm very pleased with the care she renders to me. She is pleasant and very kind and knowledgeable.

Dr. Telfeyan is a great doctor! She is so attentive and you can tell she is really trying to listen and absorb what you’re sharing. She helps you learn strategies that you can take away and practice. She also helps you to try and see things from a different perspective.
She is the best, I’m so happy to have her!

I would highly recommend Dr Telfeyan she goes above and beyond to care for her patients. She even checked in on me in between sessions when she knew I was having health issues.

An engaged, flexible, and attentive therapist, Dr. Telfeyan consistently demonstrates excellent listening skills while making thoughtful suggestions and asking relevant questions about my experiences. I have been seeing her for a couple of months now and feel like she has helped me gain useful perspective and coping tools for my anxiety. She strives to offer solutions that work with my preferences and cares about me as both a human and a patient, even checking in after she hadn’t heard from me in a while. Solutions oriented, she is easy to collaborate with and makes sharing the hard stuff easy (as possible).

She is very knowledgeable and has good advice about the other medical issues in my life as well. Dr. Telfeyan takes an interest in everyone I have to deal with as to my relationships with family and friends. She is empathetic but also can direct me when necessary. I look forward to my visits to unload both the good and troublesome.
