Getting to know Victoria Sherk

I provide compassionate and effective mental health care and counseling services in Washington D.C. As an experienced professional with 19 years of practice, I am dedicated to helping you find the right solutions to your mental health needs. I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College. The decision to seek therapy is a powerful act of self-care. Whether you are looking to make a major life change, improve a relationship, or address significant mental health challenges, I am here to listen, provide support, and offer honest feedback. I like people. I want to hear about your experiences, challenges, and successes. Reliability, honesty, and transparency are key qualities of my work. The therapeutic relationship is a partnership, and I bring my professional experience to assist you in making the change you are seeking. I utilize different approaches depending on the needs of my clients, with a focus on evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness. I strive to provide a welcoming, safe space for all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. I continually consider the impact of my experience as a white, cisgender woman on the therapeutic relationship and value open communication with my clients about race, culture, and gender identity.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize different approaches depending on the needs of my clients, though I focus particularly on evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness. My primary approach is Person-Centered, meaning that I emphasize being authentic and empathic with my clients. I am happy to follow the client's lead in sessions, or help support engagement through open-ended questions to guide our work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I will email a link to my patient portal after an appointment is scheduled. This will direct clients to my intake paperwork. You will also be able to provide a payment method in the portal which utilizes the Stripe payment processing system.
