Dr. Carey Heller, PsyD

Psychotherapist
PA
Dr. Heller specializes in helping people thrive with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or executive function challenges (i.e., time management, organization) and also works with anxiety and other related conditions. He is somewhat unique in that he often blends traditional therapy with practical coaching. This helps people to process challenges and take direct action to help make things better. For kids and teens, this often involves help with planning out homework assignments, organizing their room, working on routines (i.e., morning, afterschool, evening), and navigating issues with follow through, motivation, and more. With adults, this often involves helping them to feel less overwhelmed by working on tools to plan out work tasks, things at home, keep on top of emails, declutter their home, and much more. Dr. Heller helps people process their feelings on current challenges and take action to make things better. Sessions are usually quite interactive, with a hands on focus on planning, organizing, and more. Dr. Heller sends clients a document after each session that includes the tools discussed and their action plan developed during the appointment. Dr. Heller also runs a two hour intensive 1:1 ADHD & Executive Functioning Boot Camp which is a time limited session to jump start or tune up time management and organizational systems while also supporting the emotional and psychological components of executive functioning. Outside of his practice, Dr. Heller has a faculty appointment as an assistant clinical professor of clinical psychology at The George Washington University, providing assessment supervision to graduate students. He also serves on the local and National board for CHADD (chapter coordinator for his local chapter; Chair of the EAB on the National Board) and is President of WISER (a local organization for professionals). Finally, Dr. Heller frequently writes articles and has published a few books.
