Getting to know Dr. Emily Walsh

Welcome! I’m a licensed clinical psychologist available both in-person in Midtown West and virtually throughout New York State. I offer individual psychotherapy for adults (18+) and couples therapy for those in traditional and non-traditional relationship arrangements. Whether you’re seeking therapy for a specific reason (e.g., depression, anxiety, trauma, a major life transition, work, family, or relationship stress) or you’re just generally feeling stuck, lost, uncertain, or that something is “off,” I would be honored to help guide you back to feeling more at ease, authentic, and aligned. I have accompanied adults of all ages and identities through a wide range of emotional challenges, though I have specialized training in eating and body image concerns, gender-affirming care, couples therapy, and young adult mental health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I earned my PhD in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I then completed my clinical internship in community mental health at Maimonides Medical Center and my postdoctoral clinical fellowship at the Pratt Institute Counseling Center. I have worked across outpatient, partial hospital, and inpatient clinical settings. It would be an honor to accompany you through this next season of your life. Please reach out if you feel we might be a good fit!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I integrate evidence-based and relational psychotherapy approaches. I have foundational training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which means I may offer specific ways to help you manage intense emotional distress, navigate relationships, explore your values, and shift day-to-day behaviors. I have additional training in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapies, which informs how we can explore your current and past relationships with your family, friends, partners, and community, as well as our relationship. Reflecting on these patterns can lead to a richer, more nuanced understanding of your inner world over time. Liberatory care philosophies underlie my psychotherapy approach. All my work is trauma-informed and guided by feminist, fat positive (i.e., Health at Every Size), sex positive, queer-, kink-, and nonmonogamy-affirming principles.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Ongoing session: $200-350 for 50 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurers (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, HealthScope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, Fordham. Your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our services more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fees (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
