In 2012, she completed a three-year training in Interpersonal Neurobiology, an approach that combines attachment theory and mindfulness with the most up-to-date research in neurology and its application in counseling and therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Irena’s approach to therapy is collaborative and compassionate. She teaches clients about mental health topics, including brain biology, to give them a greater context for their feelings and challenges. She validates clients’ experiences and emotions while encouraging them to reflect on different perspectives. She also teaches clients how to set healthy boundaries in their lives and guides them through different coping strategies until they find one that works well for their distinct needs. She brings mindful meditations into sessions, as she has a background in yoga. She even has a therapy dog need Charlie who accompanies her if and when she works in the office.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial meeting is usually 90 minutes while subsequent ones are typically 60 minutes long. 30 and 45 minutes sessions are available as well. The first session includes reviewing patients' history and developing an understanding of their needs, goals, and intentions. Subsequent sessions may include verbal processing, problem solving, developing awareness and insight, improving coping and communication skills, relaxation and stress management.
